What is OR Unplugged?
A hub for collective action
OR Unplugged brings together many local movements across Oregon that are working to protect childhood and create healthier digital environments. Each community effort matters, and we help weave those efforts into a connected, statewide network—strengthening momentum, coordinating shared goals, and showing leaders that Oregon families are united and ready for change.
A unified voice for policy change
Our policy team collaborates with lawmakers to champion safer online spaces and distraction-free school days. Through the OR Unplugged Commitment and other digital screen pledges, Oregon families are demonstrating that they are already making meaningful changes at home. They want those values reflected in our state’s laws and educational policies.
A resource for parents, educators, and advocates
We gather high-quality research, practical tools, and educational materials to support both established local groups and new efforts just beginning to form. Real change begins with understanding. Our goal is to equip caring adults with the knowledge and confidence they need to advocate in their own communities.
A movement built on connection
Positive cultural change doesn’t come from one group alone. Parents, caregivers, teachers, and neighbors must work together to create healthier digital norms. That’s why OR Unplugged supports action across the whole ecosystem—our homes, our schools, and our communities.
We are inspired by and collaborate with national experts and nonprofit organizations, including the Distraction-Free Schools Policy Project, Smartphone-Free Childhood US, and PA Unplugged.
Our statewide coalition is rooted in the passion and dedication of grassroots groups across Oregon.
